The Ayurvedic Morning Routine for a Balanced Day

Are you looking for a way to start your peaceful and energizing day? If so, then you should try an Ayurvedic morning routine!


This routine includes a variety of steps that will help to bring your body and mind into balance. It is a great way to begin your day!

This ancient system of medicine has been used for centuries to help people achieve balance and harmony in their lives. The morning routine is an essential part of the day, as it sets the tone for the rest of your day. This article will discuss the basics of the Ayurvedic morning routine and how you can implement it into your own life!


Wake up early

Wake up early and take some time for yourself. Spend a few minutes stretching, breathing deeply, and enjoying quiet time. Just before sunrise, Nature is filled with pure and positive (called sattvic) energies that bring the senses peace of mind and freshness.


Drink Warm Water

Water stored overnight in a copper bottle is purified and alkalized naturally. Before doing anything else, drink copper water, which can rebalance the body and mind. Copper is an essential trace element that is vital for all living things and has an active role in many body functions. Warm water with lemon & honey may also be a suitable replacement for caffeinated drinks.


Tongue scraper and brush

Brush your teeth with a bitter or astringent toothpaste/powder (not a sweet one as this promotes bacteria) and clean your tongue with a tongue scraper. Tongue cleaning is an essential part of the self-care rituals in Ayurveda. In Ayurveda, the health of your tongue is a reflection of your overall health. So tongue scraping will remove the white coating (toxins and dead bacteria) on your tongue, improve oral hygiene, remove bad breath and help overall digestion.


Oil pull

Ditch the toxic mouthwash and swish one tbs of coconut oil in your mouth for a few minutes (10mins if possible) and spit it out in the food waste (oil clogs pipes). Oil pulling is said to 'pull' bacteria from the mouth, remove bad breath, prevent cavities, strengthen teeth, gums, and jaw while improving the sense of taste.



Elimination

What goes in must come out. Elimination is the key to optimal health. Drinking copper water will help you urinate but help to trigger bowel movements. Ayurveda recommends evacuating all your waste to jump-start your day feeling lighter, healthier, and relaxed. If you are not eliminating daily, be sure your diet includes plenty of fluids and fiber. Self-massage on the abdomen and deep, slow breathing into the belly is a great way to stimulate a bowel movement gently. If you struggle to set a routine, try taking two capsules or 1 tsp Triphala before bedtime or as per your Ayurvedic practitioner's advice.

Self-massage or Abhyanga

Performing a self-massage is an essential part of the Ayurvedic routine and the best form of self-love.

Benefits

It nourishes and strengthens the body, improves blood circulation, delays the aging process (improves wrinkles, cellulite, and scarring), stimulates lymphatic drainage, helps detoxification, lubricates joints, and stimulates internal organs. It is very grounding for Vata and Pitta and promoting for Kapha. It also helps lower stress levels and lower heart rate and potentially blood pressure levels.




Make your breakfast.

Try to eat a balanced meal with protein, healthy fats, and complex carbs.


Spend some time outside in Nature.

Take a walk or sit in the sun for at least 15 minutes. This will help to ground you and connect you with Nature.


Do some gentle yoga or stretching exercises.

This will help to energize your body and prepare you for the day ahead. Meditate for at least 15 minutes. This will help to calm and focus your mind.


Use aromatherapy oils in your diffuser.

Choose oils that promote balance and harmony, such as lavender, rose, or geranium.


Take a hot bath with some detoxifying salts or herbs.

This will help to relax your body and mind after a long day.
