Dr. Gaines' passion for medicine began at a young age, and he earned his undergraduate degree from Davidson College and his medical degree from the University of Florida College of Medicine. He completed his internship in general surgery and residency in orthopedic surgery at Emory University, followed by a fellowship in sports medicine at the University of Miami.
Dr. Gaines' expertise in total hip joint replacement using the anterior approach has made him one of the most sought-after specialists in his field. This minimally invasive surgical technique results in less tissue damage, a shorter hospital stay, and faster recovery times for patients.
As a highly skilled orthopedic surgeon, Dr. Gaines has a special interest in arthroscopic and reconstructive procedures of the knee and shoulder, as well as procedures of the hip, including total hip joint replacement surgery. Since 1992, he has been practicing in Volusia County, and he joined The Orthopedic Clinic in 2015.
Dr. Gaines is passionate about serving the Daytona Beach community where he grew up. He has lent his orthopedic expertise to several local sports teams, including Embry Riddle Aeronautical University, the Daytona Cubs professional baseball team, and several high schools. He is also the Clinical Instructor for the Florida State College of Medicine.
Dr. Gaines has extensive clinical expertise in arthroscopic shoulder repair, shoulder reconstruction, total shoulder arthroplasty, reverse total shoulder arthroplasty, arthroscopic repair, knee reconstruction, total and partial knee replacement, and fracture care of upper and lower extremities.
