Craig Popp, MD is a Board Certified, Fellowship-Trained Orthopedic Surgeon, Sports Medicine Specialist at Vero Orthopaedics

Many know Dr. Craig Popp as just an orthopedic surgeon, however, we got a chance to speak to him one on one and learn more about his journey in becoming a doctor.

Dr. Popp grew up in Southern California. Popp swam competitively and participated in water polo. Coming from an athletic background he utilizes that skill in treating all of his patients like pro athletes.

So what got Dr. Popp into wanting to become an Orthopaedic surgeon? He stated that since being an athlete whenever he got injured he saw the doctors treating him and others. And it was there where he saw that he could see himself becoming a doctor.

He went on to receive his undergraduate degree in biophysics from the University of California, Berkeley, Berkeley, California, Dr. Popp earned his medical degree from the University of Minnesota Medical School in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Following medical school, he completed his internship and residency training in orthopaedic surgery at the University of Illinois College of Medicine in Chicago, Illinois. Dr. Popp then went on to complete further specialty training in spine surgery through the University of Southern California Spine Center Fellowship at Keck School of Medicine of USC in Los Angeles, California.

He joined Vero Orthopaedics and Neurology back in 2017 and began practicing in the state of Florida. Where he enjoys swimming, working out, and racing his sailboat. He specifically loves racing his sailboat because it's an individual sport that makes you rely on yourself.

However, in his practice, he likes to treat his patients with a team approach. Since spine patients tend to have issues for longer periods of time he stated that he gets to really know his patients and see their progression.

When it comes to workers' compensation, his philosophy is to treat claimants like athletes and get them back to work as soon as possible. Even if it’s to a certain degree because if you stop going to work it's harder to ever get back.
